Video Guest Book

Framed by universal design, usability and Deaf culture, this research will address the concept of inclusive feedback systems for public use.

The video guestbook is an accessible video kiosk that is designed to allow users to make short audio/video entries as feedback for their visit to an organization (similar to a paper-based guestbook). An electronic guestbook is often used for special events such as memorials to leave dedicated messages and comments asynchronously. Surveys that are either paper-based or electronic are also another common way to trying to gather customer or user experience/feedback.

This project is a derivative of the SignLink Studio (SLS) project that has been designed to allow sign language-based websites to be constructed, and the TerpTube project uses SLS technology to support sign language interpreter training. The video guestbook will also use SLS technology but to create an accessible video guestbook that can be made available in public venues where customer feedback is desirable such as hotels, restaurants, and public institutions. Video feedback provided by visitors can be instantly posted to websites or remote screens for viewing by public audiences or it can be stored in electronic databases for further processing prior to it being made available.
